The Qurantine

As of June 1, 1994, the island was officially declared quarantined, due to the outbreak of an unknown disease. Much of the state of New York is under close watch, as the disease was believed to have spread, however this remains unconfirmed. Currently, the two bridges that connect that island to Long Island are heavily guarded and allow no access. The only transport to and from the island are government approved aircraft - helicopters, as the island has no airport.

The disease is believed to be somehow related to the influenza virus, though causes additional, uncharacteristic symptoms, such as hyperhidrosis, mucus discharge, encephalitus and psychosis. Various news sources question whether the origin of this outbreak - known primarily as Lockley Virus, though colloquially referred to as Dragonfly virus, or Dragonflu, due to the unusually large amount of dead dragonflies found in infected homes - are natural, or perhaps have more sinister, man-made origins.
